History

The sport of Ultimate has been a part of the Missouri State tradition for many years. Records show that the University, formerly Southwest Missouri State, attended College Nationals in 1985, 1986, and 1987. However, not much is known about the players during that time or for many years after. It wasn’t until 1999 that we have record of the team again, calling themselves Team Option, and establishing a foundation for what the current team is built from. In 2002 the team picked up a bunch of recruits from the intramural team Fury, and decided to change the team name to The Frizzbears. The 2003-2004 season brought in some new recruits and saw the formation of Springfield’s annual tournament, Frostbite. The team flourished for a few years and were able to attend Regionals in 2004 for Club seasson and in 2005 and 2006 for College. After establishing ourselves as a solid organization on campus and a key sport in the Unversity’s tradition in 2008, the name Missouri State Ultimate was approved and so defines the team for hopefully many years to come.
